International Plaza and Bay Street

The Situation

The Discoveries

Our senior management team determined valet parking at International Plaza and Bay Street needed to be responsive to the needs of shoppers and diners. The front drive lane at International Plaza and Bay Street would not allow more than 6-8 vehicles to be staged at a time due to restricted space. Parking of valet vehicles was to be done in spaces on surface lots and two decks located within close promimity to the valet drop-off point. Although there were over 6,000 spaces available, Seven One Seven had to determine the best location for the valet vehicles. Our on-site team identified the valet parking area within the lots and obtained approval from International Plaza to segregate these spaces from transient parkers. Our team had to direct the traffic flow of vehicles dropping off passengers so the valet lane would remain open. We also realized that effective communication between the Seven One Seven on-site operations manager and the International Plaza’s manager would be imperative to insure our team was aware of any events affecting the valet parking.

Implementation

Implementation included selecting a team comprised of an on-site manager, front-line managers and valet attendants. We also had to consider that while guests at the Plaza would be paying for valet parking, guests of the Capital Grille would present their valet ticket for validation at the restaurant for free parking. To ensure an accurate record of all parking transactions, Seven One Seven implemented a state-of-the-art tracking system that provides daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports. To address the restricted space on the front drive, Seven One Seven implemented an immediate parking policy for all vehicles.

Seven One Seven, along with Lexus of Tampa Bay implemented a number of delighter programs including cold water at the valet stand. We also implemented an advertising program on the back of valet tickets for local merchants which resulted in a cost savings for International Plaza and Bay Street.

Results

Today, International Plaza and Bay Street is considered the standard for shopping facility valet service by Taubman Centers and the Tampa Bay community. Seven One Seven has remained the valet service provider at the International Plaza and Bay Street and Renaissance Tampa Hotel since their opening in 2000 by providing guests with an unmatched level of servicce.

Seven One Seven, Taubman Centers and Lexus of Tampa Bay formed a partnership that continues to complement guest experiences as evidenced by continued increased Customer Service Scores. Parking over 85,000 vehicles per year, Seven One Seven has exceeded International Plaza’s expectation of excellent service.
